12-year-old Hans Dunne is planning to be come a scribe so he can copy the Bible by hand. Meanwhile Johann Gutenberg is working on printing the first Bible with type. By God's providence, Hans ends up, instead of being a scribes apprentice, as an apprentice to Gutenburg in his print shop. God has inspired Gutenburg to print the Bible. Inorder to follow God's will, Gutenburg has borrowed money from everyone in town so that he can print the first Bible with type. Gutenburg knows that God will bless his work, and that he will be able to pay back everyone he borrowed from once the Bible is printed. But problems arrise, greed causes the village banker, Herr Fust, to attempt to steal Gutenburg's type for himself.
