(2003) The Sablayan Prison Penal Farm consists of approximately 1,050 (more or less) inmates located on four campuses scattered over the 62,500-acre prison farm. It is exciting to us to note that 75 OF THE 105 BAPTISMS CAME FROM INMATES LEADING OTHER INMATES TO CHRIST! (Do you realize that these 105 inmates are 10% of the prison population!?)

Sometimes roads are washed out and land travel is very restricted. Often during rainy season the ocean waves make sea travel dangerous or impossible.

(2003) Are you ever convinced, as one thing after another goes wrong, that the Lord has something special planned that the enemy is doing his best to ruin" We have come to expect great blessings from the annual Lithuanian camp meeting, so it should be no surprise that the enemy of souls tries to throw a wrench in the works.

(2003) Since 1991, the Romanian Union together with Laymen Ministries, has printed hundreds of thousands of books and millions of pamphlets and tracts for the prisons and for general outreach; Bibles by the thousands were purchased. Many meetings have taken place with high-ranking government officials in the establishing of HPS (Humanitarian Prison Services), the prison ministry still sponsored by Laymen Ministries. About North India

  • Temple Training by Sandra Horner. (2003) The Lifestyle Educator School, operated by Laymen Ministries in North India, is in an area largely unaffected by the political strife rampant in Napal, or other parts of India.
  • A Case of Poisoning! By Terri Horner. (2003) In early December the TV crew arrived with lights and video camera to tape our presentations. Sandra first introduced the teachers and students, and then I had a short presentation on hypertension. . . I inquired what she had swallowed, as some poisons should not be vomited. Apparently she had drunk a bottle of brass polish!
  • Neither Rain Nor Dark of Night by Sandra Horner. (2001) Sabbath started out so beautifully, but by breakfast we had the terrible news—the king and queen of Nepal, and much of the royal family, had been ruthlessly murdered. All day we hung in suspense, trying to brush off the terrible news as we spent time with Jesus. In the evening my students and myself considered plans for our trip back to Nepal.
  • Teaching, Crowds and Rhinos! by Sandra Horner. (2000) While I was in Jaigoan our class was disrupted with the news that a rhino had attacked a woman. Several students went out to see if the lady was alive, and if anything could be done. Unfortunately, the rhino had put its horn through her abdomen and then licked the side of her body, taking away deep pieces of flesh.

About Nepal

  • Amidst the Storm (Laymen Ministries Report on Nepal. 2003) Now it has almost become ‘fashionable’ for any political party to close Nepal in order to make themselves heard. Today, peace talks between the government and the Maoists’ party.
  • God’s Word for Nepal (A Laymen Ministries Update. 2002) The country of Nepal has gone through one crisis after the other over the last two years. Maoist insurgent groups have caused untold deaths and instability. Then nearly the whole Royal family was killed last year while attending a dinner at their royal palace.
  • We Shall See the King a Laymen Ministries report on Nepal (2001) “What is this envelope about?” I asked Dr. Amatya. With a level look he said, “That is a private invitation from Dr. M. R. Panday to come to a celebration of the 25th anniversary of his health foundation—which is going to be hosted by the King and Queen of Nepal.”
  • Stupas, Burning Bodies and Holy Men a Laymen Ministries report on Nepal. (1999) We arrived in Nepal at the beginning of TIHAR, one of a series of ten festivals which begin in October and last through December. The streets and houses were covered with lights and tinsel—I felt like we should be hearing “White Christmas” in the shops as we walked by!

About China

  • In the Minority by Missionary X (2003). Laymen Ministries is supporting several minority lay workers. Some are dedicated to reaching their own people for Christ, and others are learning how to understand and reach some of the remote minority peoples.
  • Mountain Tops by Missionary X (2003). Missionary X, the baptismal candidates, a few select friends, and a visiting pastor made their way into the mountains for a week of in-depth study, which would culminate in the baptism and a communion service. To undertake such a venture in this autonomous region of China is a risky business.
  • Living Monuments by Missionary X. (2002) Scattered across the grasslands of China, one can find ancient grave markers, like the one shown above. The person buried there is long forgotten. Those are not the kinds of monuments we want to leave behind in China. The monuments we leave are living ones, which testify to the power and grace of the living God to change lives. These people are like the ancient wells scattered across the plains.
  • Taking the Hard Road by Missionary X. (2001) Because of this winter’s snow disaster in China’s northern provinces, many of my students had a hard time getting back to school The first four days, he rode on horseback through the mountains in hip-deep snow until he found a place where he could get on a bus.
  • A Forbidden Gospel a report about Missionary X. These Christians often face incredible opposition as they seek to work for God. Their families want them to work hard and make money, rather than devote their lives to sharing the gospel.
